First — Which System Do You Have?
Electric Hot Water Systems
Check the power and press reset
A tripped circuit breaker or a failed element can cut the power. Reset the breaker, and if your unit has a red reset button on the thermostat, press it once.
Check the isolation switch & meter
Make sure the hot water isolation switch is on. If you're on an off-peak tariff, the system may simply not have heated yet overnight.
Gas Systems (Storage or Continuous Flow)
Relight the pilot light
On gas storage units, a pilot light that's gone out means no heating. Follow the relight instructions on the unit — if it won't stay lit, it needs a technician.
Check the gas supply
Confirm the gas is on and, for LPG, that the bottle isn't empty. Continuous flow units often show an error code on the controller when there's a fault.
Solar & Heat Pump Systems
Check the electric or gas booster
On cloudy days solar relies on its booster. If the booster has tripped or failed, you'll get no hot water even though the panels are fine.
Look for an error code
Heat pumps show a fault code on the controller for sensor, fan, compressor or refrigerant issues. Note the code and call us to diagnose it.
