Frequently Asked Questions

No hot water?

Electric systems

Ensure the unit is receiving power. Check that the power switch near the tank is turned on.

Confirm the circuit breaker or fuse at the meter board is switched on.

Gas systems

The pilot light may have gone out. You may need to relight it — refer to the instructions below on relighting a pilot light.

Natural gas or electricity – which should you use?

If your home already has a natural gas connection and you’re using it for heating or cooking, choosing a gas hot water system is often the most efficient option.
If not, Dux offers a wide range of electric storage systems designed to suit different household sizes and budgets.

How do I choose the right tariff for my electric Dux water heater?

Most energy retailers offer concessional or “off-peak” tariffs specifically for electric storage hot water systems.
These tariffs power the unit during set times — usually overnight — helping reduce running costs.

Pairing an off-peak tariff with a large-capacity Dux storage tank ensures you have enough hot water between heating periods.
Contact your electricity provider to check tariff options in your area.

No hot water coming from your taps?

Sometimes the water heater is located far from the outlet, meaning water in the pipe cools when not in use.
Open the hot tap for longer to allow the cooled water to flush out before the heated water arrives.

Electric systems

Check that the unit has power at the nearby outlet.

Ensure the fuse or breaker at the meter board is turned on.

Gas systems

Check whether the pilot light needs to be relit.

Make sure the gas isolation valve is open.

Test another gas appliance to confirm gas supply.

Dux Continuous Flow systems

Ensure the unit has power. Check both the power outlet and the fuse at the meter board.

No water coming from the outlet?

Check if cold water is flowing from the tap.

If no water comes out at all, ensure the main water isolation valve to your home is open.

Confirm the cold-water isolation valve leading to the water heater is open.

Running out of hot water?

Check whether low-flow showerheads are installed. If not, your plumber can install them to reduce hot water usage.

Ask your energy retailer if your current tariff provides enough heating time for your electric storage system.

Monitor shower duration — longer showers use significantly more hot water.

Choose cold-water washing cycles where possible.

If your household has grown or usage has increased (e.g., teenagers), you may need to upgrade to a larger Dux system.
